Properly Dispose of Medications and Personal Care Products

What’s the issue?
IMedications and Personal Care Products can cause problems if leached into surface waters.

Medications

  • Contact your local drug store to see if they will take old medications.
  • Periodically Polce and Hosehold Hazardous Waste Days will have Medication Collections.
  • If neither option above is available to you, the Department of Pharmacy Medication Disposal says: Mix Medicine with bad tasting substance such as kitty litter or coffee grounds.  Place in sealed bax or container.  Dispose in household trash.
  • Needles should be placed in plastic container such as detergent bottle before being disposed of.

Personal Care Products

  • If products are still safe to use, see if someone you know can use it.
  • Landfills currently are the best place to dispose of old makeup and other personal care products.
